FU HUA A WESTERN THEMED AMUSEMENT PARK FOR WEIFANG, CHINA Literally translated from Chinese, the words Fu Hua mean Rich China Located approximately 450 miles southeast of Beijing, the city of Weifang of the Shan Dong Province decided to spearhead its mid90s community redevelopment program with a fullscale 20hectare amusement park project. Exline Design was retained to develop the master plan and to generate an initial conceptual package for the park. ![]() The distinctive guest circulation is fashioned after a fivepointed star, conceived as a strong symbol for the projects marketing efforts. The fivepointed star plan was well received in that it works in concert with Chinese symbols of government and also the National Communist Party. The key elements of the project include a 12hectare (approx. 28 acre) amusement park (as opposed to a theme park) with a festive retail complex situated at its entrance. The client requested that the primary elements of the park include the best features of Western entertainment parks including a Main Street entrance and a fantasy castle at the parks center hub. Guests enter and exit the park along this "mainstreet" which offers the traditional retail and food service opportunities. A large Victorian trainstation visually announces the parks main gate, with secondlevel service to the train ride that travels around the perimeter of the projects first phase. The remaining attractionsmix for the park was programmed and developed by Exline Design, and includes 25 offtheshelf rides and one custom darkride experience. Other uses designed as a part of the overall master plan include a 250room luxury hotel providing a secondary entrance to the park. A 7,500 square meter indoorrecreation center and a 3,500 square meter conference center flank the hotel anchor. The development also includes a fullscale seasonal water park, a 54hole miniature golf course, and additional programmed area for the parks future expansion.
